Our classes for Juniors cater for children between 7- 10 years old. The focus is on self expression, creativity and working in a team. Our Students engage in Poetry Recital, Storytelling,Mime and Movement, Role Play and Creative Drama. All of the class exercises and games are devised around these activities in a fun and safe environment. The Speech and Drama Exams for this age group are centred around Poetry recital,Mime and Movement and the first steps in Performance.
"Our two sons (now aged 10 & 12) have been going to Mary's weekly DramaWorks Speech & Drama classes at Star of the Sea for several years, and it has been an enriching opportunity for them.It has helped them with confidence, social skills and 'being dramatic'. (Our younger boy does a pretty mean take-off of Robin Williams in "Mrs. Doubtfire"—something he wouldn't have done before.)The exams give them some focus on practising their delivery of poetry or prose, and is good acclimatisation to an exam situation, though it is very relaxed and not at all formal.Our older boy had a very rewarding experience through DramaWorks, having played a part in Mary's production of "A Christmas Carol" with Leeson Park Players last Christmas. He took part in weekly rehearsals in advance and thoroughly enjoyed dressing up and performing on stage in a proper production. The benefit of having to go through with it all—and succeed at it—despite the normal nerves and apprehensions of getting up in front of an audience was huge. I think it was a great lesson in how to grow and overcome your fears—a super life lesson. It hammered home to us the benefits of learning such 'soft skills' through Speech & Drama.
